Folklore Museum of Lefkadian Culture

The Folklore Museum of Orpheus is an important part of the cultural heritage of Lefkada.

The Folklore Museum of Orpheus was founded in 1978 with the aim of preserving and maintaining all kinds of folklore material of the island of Lefkada.

The museum's collection consists of more than a thousand exhibits, covering the whole range of activities and everyday life of the inhabitants of the town and villages of Lefkada.

History of the Cultural Association "Orpheus"


"Orpheus" was founded in November 1937 in Lefkada by a group of young people, members of the mandolin band, with the aim of learning traditional musical instruments and the cultivation of musical education and the spiritual upliftment of the citizens of the island. The first appearance of the mandolin band under the name of the newly established association took place on 1 January 1938. From its foundation until today it has been accompanied by thousands of young people who learned and loved music.


Museum Opening hours

The Folklore Museum is open everyday except Monday,

from 1st of June to 15th of September 

in the morning from 10.00a.m. to 13.00p.m.

and in the afternoon from 19.00p.m. to 21.00p.m.


Photo Gallery

The collection of photographs of the Folklore Museum consists of hundreds of exhibits depicting the everyday life of the inhabitants of the town and villages of Lefkada: their clothes, the tools and utensils they used, as well as works of folklore art.
